“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
June 14: Eliza, Justyn, Justyna
June 15: Angelina, Jolanta
June 16: Alina, Aneta, Jan, Justyna
June 17: Agnieszka, Franciszek, Laura, Marcjan
June 18: Elżbieta, Marek, Marina, Paula
June 19: Julianna
June 20: Bogna, Bogumiła, Bożena, Franciszek, Michał, Rafaela, Rafał
June 21: Alicja, Marta, Teodor

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

ST. BROTHER ALBERT (Albert Chmielowski) Feast day: June 17: On August 25, 1887, he joined the Third Order of St. Francis. He chose to live in a public shelter (iin Krakow, Poland), where he served meals and provided clothing and basic necessities to people who had nothing. He helped all, regardless of religion or culture. Although he had a promising career as an artist, he left this work  to set up homeless shelters and other organizations for the poor. With Blessed Sister Bernardina, he set up an affiliated women’s organization. He argued that one of the greatest tragedies of our time is that people who have a lot ignore – sometimes willfully ignore – those who are in need. He was canonized in 1983 by St. John Paul II, who said that Brother Albert’s example had greatly inspired him in his own vocation.

TODAY AFTER MASS: Planting of flowers and painting at the site of the soon-to-be-installed kapliczka/Kolonia Immigrant Heritage Parkette (at the bottom of Bryan St.) Everyone is welcome and it won't take long. Thanks to Krista Ann Starzomski, youth education coordinator. This past week, students from Whitney Pier Memorial Jr. High painted a beautiful Polish mural on the fence, designed by Jo-Ann Dziubek MacDonald. You are welcome to drop by to see it.

LUNCH AFTER MASS NEXT SUNDAY - REBUILDING UPDATE – PLUS SPECIAL GUEST: Natalie Bull, Executive Director, National Trust of Canada (for a short discussion on tips for major fund-raising). The following is a list of parishioners who are next in the rotation to please bring a dish (Many thanks!): Krista Ann Starzomski, Genevieve & Janusz Wawrzyszyn, Anna Wesolkowska, Tom Urbaniak, Larry Gniewek, Tony Gniewek, Bob Lewandowski, Frania Ardelli, Marjorie Ardelli, Shirley Ardelli, Victoria Aucoin, Edyta Baczyk, Stephanie Black, Anne Marie & Jim Campbell, Denise Campbell. Chris Campbell, Suzanne Campbell

CONGRATULATIONS to Sister Rosaline Tynski who is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee with the Sisters of St. Martha! God bless, Sister Rose, from everyone at St. Mary's Polish Parish.

THANK YOU TO THE SISTERS OF ST. MARTHA! The Sisters of St. Martha made a wonderful legacy contribution of $10,000 toward our rebuilding. We are very grateful for their friendship and support. Serdeczny Bóg zapłać!

Świętej pamięci DOROTHY ROZELUK: The family of Dorothy, who passed away on June 3, would like to advise that the Memorial Service will be on Friday, July 31, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Everyone is welcome. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all. May she rest in peace. Niech odpoczywa w pokoju wiecznym.

FINANCE COMMITEE RECRUITMENT: This is a call for volunteers to serve on the Finance Commitee for next year. To offer to serve or to recommend someone, or for more information on the terms of reference of the Finance Commitee, please speak with Shauna McKay (samckay@ns.sympatico.ca) or Tom Urbaniak (902-563-1226; tom urbaniak@cbu.ca) by next Sunday. As per the parish by-laws, the Rada recommends to the Pastor, for his consideration, fellow parishioners to serve on the Finance Commitee.

PIEROGI ORDERS: If you ordered pierogi and did not receive them yet, please pick up your order after Mass today at the Polish Village Hall. Thanks to everyone who worked on and supported this fund-raiser for our rebuilding!

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: You are invited to attend this Thursday 5:15-6:15 at the Polish Village Hall. Natalie Bull, Executive Director of the National Trust for Canada, and Lucy Cummings, Executive Director of Faith and the Common Good, would like our input on fall workshops they are designing (a national pilot in Cape Breton) for faith communities on fund-raising, volunteer recruitment, and community development. Please speak with Tom Urbaniak if you can attend.

Launch of “The Pier” board game (inter-faith committee, Habitat for Humanity) is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, at 4 p.m. at the Polish Village Hall.

PILGRIMAGE TO Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre: Led by Father Paul Murphy, the pilgrimage will be from Aug. 24th to Sept. 1st.  It includes three shrines in nine days.  Cost for the trip is $760 based on double occupancy (two per room).  Fee of $760 must be paid prior to Aug. 1st.  Seating is limited....only a few seats left. CONCERT OF CHOIRS - MAJOR FUND-RAISER FOR OUR REBUILDING: Evening of Sunday, October 25, United Heritage Church, downtown Sydney. Thanks to our friends at United Heritage Church for making their sanctuary available at no charge. This concert will be a big project for our rebuilding.

A SUMMER CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR OUR REBUILDING – Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church in South Haven (Victoria County) holds a beautiful concert of choirs and musicians twice a year. They have decided to dedicate their next concert to the rebuilding of St. Mary’s Polish Church and will raise funds for us at the event. It will take place on Sunday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. It would be wonderful if many of our parishioners could attend to show our friendship and appreciation. From Rev. Brian MacLeod: “Please relay our prayers to your great church.” Our choir will be part of this concert.

SACRED ART & OBJECTS GROUP: Meeting at First United Church (which has kindly offered items) this coming Friday at 6 p.m.

REBUILDING UPDATE: This week, the province approved the design for our church (required because the property remains a provincial heritage property). Our insurance is estimating 3-4 more weeks before the settlement is completed (we need this before we can start construction). Gary Hanley (architect) will be meeting with CBRM staff this week to try to move us closer to the needed municipal permits (municipal staff have been helpful). Lucy Cummings, Executive Director of Faith and the Common Good, will be meeting with the Rada and Gary Hanley on Friday to discuss programs to make the church green: (timely in light of Pope Francis' encyclical on climate change to be released this week).

A SPECIAL REQUEST: We are still inviting everyone to please share names (and, if possible, addresses) of everyone who should receive a direct, personalized fund-raising appeal letter for the capital campaign for the rebuilding of our church. Please give these to Patrica Paruch (Rada Secretary) or Stephanie Black (Fund-raising Convenor). Many thanks.
