“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
May 3: Maria, Aleksander, Antoni
May 4: Grzegorz, Michał, Monika
May 5: Irena, Teodor, Waldemar
May 6: Jan, Judyta
May 7: Benedykt, Bogumir, Ludmiła, Ludomiła
May 8: Marek, Michał, Piotr, Stanisław
May 9: Bożydar, Grzegorz, Karolina, Mikołaj
May 10: Częstomir, Jan

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

MARY, QUEEN OF POLAND (Feast: May 3 – also Constitution Day): Excerpted from an article by Martin LaMartina in Christian Culture (2009):  For the ultimate expression of Polish Catholic devotion we can look to the fruition of Polish Marian piety in the lives and in the enduring spiritual gifts to the Church of her contemporary martyrs, saints, priests, and religious. The list includes St. Faustina, Blessed Pope John Paul II and St. Maximillian Kolbe. These sons and daughters of Poland of the twentieth century are still influential in the life of the universal Church of today … The nation’s strong devotion to Mary traces its roots back to the installation and adoration of Our Lady’s iconic image at Czestochowa. While each of these individuals has given us a unique personal witness, they are all similar in their personal dependence on the will of Christ through obedience to His Mother through the Church. A dependence summed up in the motto of John Paul II: “Totus Tuus”. This motto is also applicable to the collective soul of the Polish nation from which these saints come forth. This soul was officially recognized, and Poland’s faith was solidified, with the crowning of Mary as “Queen of Poland” through an official Act of Parliament proposed by King John Casimir.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY –POLISH VILLAGE HALL—EVERYONE IS WELCOME. There is no charge. We will have the unveiling of the architectural plans for the rebuilding of our church with architect Gary Hanley. Thank you, everyone, for your helpful feedback and comments on the drafts. Thanks be to God as we all move forward together with our rebuilding.

NEXT SUNDAY – LUNCH AFTER MASS – a gathering for all parishioners and friends to celebrate the First Holy Communion of Sophie Ann Chislett and Mothers’ Day. The following parishioners are next in the rotation to please bring a dish. Thank you for your help: Jola and Andrzej Cebula, Janet Hawthorne, Carolyn Kiley, Patsy Kiley, Mary Jane and Leo Kyte, Jancia and Bernie LaRusic, Toni LaRusic, Janina MacCormack, Rita MacDonald, Jean Maillette, Mary McMullin, Liz Melski, Tony Melski

LAST SUNDAY’S FUND-RAISING TEA WAS A SUCCESS: It was sold out. The final tally toward our rebuilding is still to come in, because of some outstanding expenses, but it is estimated to be about $1,500. Thank you to Nicole Baker, her family, and her team for excellent organizational work.

PARISH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING/RADA NOMINATIONS: The AGM is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, after Mass. As per the By-laws that were adopted in 2012, four seats on the Rada Duszpasterska (half) are being elected or re-elected this year, and the other four next year (staggered). Current members are eligible to re-offer. The Nominating Committee presents the nominees for consideration by the Annual General Meeting. The list is reviewed before the AGM by the Pastor. (Membership on committees is addressed after the AGM by the Pastor and Rada, after a call for volunteers.) If you are interested in being a candidate for Rada election, please provide a short written note to Janet Hawthorne either in person or by email  janethawthorne@hotmail.com  by May 11.  At the Annual General Meeting, there will also be a written report on parish activities, ministries, and committees, as well as a financial report. If you would like to contribute any items/information for the written Annual Report, please speak with any member of the Rada.

RESURRECTION CEMETERY is looking for a representative of St. Mary’s Polish Parish to serve on its board. If you might wish to consider this opportunity please speak with any member of the Rada.

PARISHIONERS WHO ARE ILL, UNDERGOING OPERATIONS, OR HOMEBOUND: Please share their names with our greeters (and if greeters could advise Father Paul or any member of the Rada that would be much appreciated). That will help make sure that we are praying and thinking about any of our fellow parishioners who cannot make it to church, and also providing any support we can. Thank you.
