“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
March 8: Beata, Jan, Julian, Stefan
March 9: Dominik, Franciszka, Katarzyna
March 10: Aleksander, Borzysław, Cyprian
March 11: Benedykt
March 12: Bernard,  Grzegorz, Józefina
March 13: Bożena, Ernest, Kasjan, Krystyna, Marek
March 14: Jakub, Leon, Matylda, Michał
March 15: Klemens, Krzysztof, Ludwika

INVITATION TO OUR PARISH TO PREPARE A CHAPTER FOR AN UPCOMING BOOK: Ron Caplan, publisher of Breton Books, is compiling/editing a second edition of the book Cape Breton’s Christmas. He has invited our parish to prepare a section on Polish Christmas customs – including anecdotes and memories. If you would like to help with the work on this, or if you think there are particular stories that should be reflected, please speak with any member of the Rada. Ron would like to have our submission by July.

AN UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENING FOR THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY’S POLISH CHURCH: THE CAPE BRETON CHORDSMEN have invited our choir to perform with them at their Gospel Concert on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Highland Arts Theatre (former St. Andrew’s in downtown Sydney).  Tickets are $20 each and will be on sale at the theatre and are available from the choir.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES FOR REBUILDING: We are seeking volunteers for three rebuilding committees: Fund-raising (though most of the budget will come from insurance, there will be some fund-raising – the “goal” amount to be known soon), Sacred Objects and Art (to help obtain these), Outreach (helping with public relations), and any other ways in which you might wish to assist. Also, we’re hoping to have a youth working group to help with various aspects of the rebuilding. Please see the sign-up sheet in today’s bulletin. Please give your form to any member of the Rada.

CHARITABLE TAX RECEIPTS are available. Please see Shauna McKay. Please note that some of our collection/donation records were lost in the fire and had to be reconstructed with other available documentation. If you notice any discrepancies, please bring these forward.

ShareLent Project to support Development and Peace: (the theme this year for all Catholic Churches is “Sow much love to give” – rural poverty). The Rada is looking at inviting a small donation (eg. $5) from participants in a pisanki-making workshop later this month (details to follow). Parishioners are most welcome to suggest other projects as well.

REBUILDING FUND CONTRIBUTIONS: Building Fund contributions will go toward the new church. To contribute to the rebuilding if you do not have an envelope, you can also write on your regular envelope or cheque “Designated to the Rebuilding of St. Mary’s Polish Church.”
