“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
March 1: Albin, Antoni, Antonina, Amelia, Feliks, Herakles, Joanna, Józef, Piotr
March 2: Franciszek, Helena, Henryk, Krzysztof, Michał, Paweł, Piotr
March 3: Hieronim, Maryna
March 4: Adrian, Adrianna, Arkadiusz, Eugeniusz, Kazimierz, Lucja

INVITATION TO OUR PARISH TO PREPARE A CHAPTER FOR AN UPCOMING BOOK: Ron Caplan, publisher of Breton Books, is compiling/editing a second edition of the book Cape Breton’s Christmas. He has invited our parish to prepare a section on Polish Christmas customs – including anecdotes and memories. If you would like to help with the work on this, or if you think there are particular stories that should be reflected, please speak with any member of the Rada. Ron would like to have our submission by July.

AN UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENING FOR THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY’S POLISH CHURCH: THE CAPE BRETON CHORDSMEN have invited our choir to perform with them at their Gospel Concert on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Highland Arts Theatre (former St. Andrew’s in downtown Sydney).  Photos of our parish will be shown during the concert. If there are any photos that you would like to see included please let any member of the Rada know. Tickets are $20 each and will be on sale this week at the theatre. You can also call 902-564-8216

REBUILDING UPDATE:  We are continuing to work with the adjustor to determine what the final insurance settlement will be. As soon as we have a final budget number, we will inform the parish. Meanwhile, architect Gary Hanley is working on more detailed design options, which the Rada will share and discuss with parishioners before any approvals. Also, we are hoping to arrange a special workshop with the architect for the youth of our parish. The goal is to have work start by the summer.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES FOR REBUILDING: We are seeking volunteers for three rebuilding committees: Fund-raising (though most of the budget will come from insurance, there will be some fund-raising – the “goal” amount to be known soon), Sacred Objects and Art (to help obtain these), Outreach (helping with public relations), and any other ways in which you might wish to assist. Also, we’re hoping to have a youth working group to help with various aspects of the rebuilding. There will be sign-up at the lunch today. Thank you!

His policies sought to have noble families share their bounty with the poor.
