“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
July 13: Ernest, Eugeniusz, Jakub, Justyna, Małgorzata, Sara
July 14: Damian, Dobrogost, Franciszek, Izabela, Marcelina
July 15: Daniel, Dawid, Henryk, Iga, Ignacy

ST. SZYMON (SIMON) OF LIPNICA – FEAST DAY JULY 18: One of the patron saints of Kraków and of university students of Polish heritage, Br. Simon (1435-1482) was a Franciscan and teacher at Jagiellonian University. In the statement accompanying his canonization in 2007 we are told that “he genuinely embraced the humble and poor life …” When the plague stuck Kraków in the early 1480s, Simon “went everywhere comforting, giving succour, administering the sacraments and announcing the consoling Word of God to the dying. He was soon infected. He suffered the pain of the disease with extraordinary patience and, near the end, expressed his desire to be buried under the threshold of the church…”
