“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
May 25: Grzegorz, Imisława, Maria Magdalena
May 26: Filip, Marianna, Paulina, Ewelina, Więcemił
May 27: Jan, Juliusz, Lucjan, Magdalena, Radowit
May 28: Augustyn, Jaromir, Wiktor, Wrocimir

If you would like to be part of these efforts in any way, please speak with Tom Urbaniak.

MAY IS THE MONTH OF MARY: The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1; see also catholiculture.org).

PRAYING FOR PEACE ON THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF MONTECASSINO: “Every soldier’s grave is a cry for peace, a pleading for forgiveness and reconciliation,” said Bishop Jozef Guzdek last Sunday in a Polish Mass broadcast on all the major Polish stations. This was to mark the 70th anniversary of the final battle of Montecassino, in which Allied forces, led on that occasion by Poles but including Canadians, won a key victory and opened the road to Rome.
