“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) – A CATHOLIC POLISH TRADITION

Our Parish Planning Team’s Renewal and Service report recommended that we highlight the Catholic Polish tradition of imieniny (Name Days). This tradition is prevalent in Poland, and Name Days are still celebrated by some local Polish families.

Your Name Day corresponds to the feast day of the saint of the same name. If there is more than one saint of the same name who has his or her own day, your Name Day is typically the one closest to your birthday. If your name does not appear on the calendar, you can use your middle name or a Polish name that seems closest to yours.

A Name Day is typically celebrated by attending a weekday Mass, as well as with best wishes, cards or small gifts, and sometimes a gathering of friends.

Every week, we will try to submit to the bulletin a list of Name Days. Further, we will post a calendar on-line on our parish website: www.StMarysPolishParish.ca . Also, at the back of the church today are a limited number of Name Day calendars. They are complimentary, but if you take one we would kindly encourage you to put a few extra dollars into the collection basket today to support the parish.

The following are the Name Days for the coming week:

April 15: Anastazja, Leonid, Wacław, Wacława; April 16: Erwin, Julia, Ksenia, Nikita, Nosisław; April 17: Jakub (Jacob), Józef, Klara, Radociech, Robert, Rudolf, Stefan; April 18: Bogusław, Bogusława, Gościsław; April 19: Cieszyrad, Czechasz, Czesław, Leon, Tymon, Werner, Włodzimierz; April 20: Agnieszka (Agnes), Czechoń, Czesław, Nawoj, Szymon (Simon), Teodor;  April 21: Bartosz, Drogomił, Feliks, Konrad
---
If your name day is this week, składamy najlepsze życzenia (we extend best wishes). God bless!
